Smoke away, bunny rabbit!

Hello everyone! *well it's only me and three or four other people that check this blog, but yeh...*,

Today I'm posting a what I find to be an amusing depiction of unexpressed feelings, thoughts, habits. Perhaps it's a soul with all that it entails, or a guilty look, an empty minute, or simply a pink rabbit with a smoke. I hope you enjoy this picture as much as I did. There you go;

Are You Nobody, Too?

I'm nobody! Who are you?
Are you nobody, too?
then there's a pair of us -- don't tell;
They'd banish us, you know!

How dreary to be somebody!
How public, like a frog
to tell your name the livelong day
to an admiring bog!

a poem by Emily Dickinson that we did in school about four years ago. I think it's a very nice poem, being simple at the same time. I just felt like sharing this with you, and perhaps when reading it you might find a little bit of yourself in there, where i keep losing mine.

Lolita

I finally watched Lolita the other day. It's always been like a myth to me. Always had heard something about the story, but never really knew what was exactly going on. So i decided to finally rent it out.

IMPRESSIONS; Sue Lyon is absolutely charming and beautiful. She gave out a feeling of innocence and vulgarity at some points, sometimes. Also, i quite liked James Mason for Humbert, i mean i thought the acting part was great, but I don't think his looks were appropriate for the role. But the best was-no surprise- Peter Sellers! I don't think there would be a part in any film he couldn't stand up to.( He talked too funny on this film!) What can i say he's a genious!
Anyway, in all I enjoyed the film very very very much and i have to mark that i managed to watch it without looking at the remaining time a lot-almost at all-, which is not something that happens to me everyday.
I also want to say how thrilling i found the linked beginning and ending of the film.
The murder is perfect. It was very spooky having Humbert shooting at the painting and finally killing Clare Quilty after their random>funny conversation. Plus, the fact that in the end the first scene isn't carried through; finishing the film where Humbert enters Quilty's house is brilliant. Adds up to the climax.

CHARACTERS; So Humbert was a psychologically sick man. This is what i figured out. Psychologically sick meaning he had an obsession for Lolita, which he couldn't drop. Perhaps he had become bored of his life's routine and found some kind of way-out in Lolita and her beauty, carefree attitude. It seems a little more obvious why he came to the point of murdering Quilty; he had lost his Lolita and his life seemed empty without her. Humbert then found out who took her out of hospital-Quilty- and consequently "ruined" his life. Alors, he went off and killed Clare Quilty taking his revenge.
About Quilty. He was an intelligent, out-of-the-ordinary man. When Lolita says at the end that he had proposed her to act in his friends' "art films", I immediately thought of Andy Warhol. In a sense that Quilty was a man of television and would do anything to have a good time, not taking account of the consequences or the damage to people's lives. He seemed to me trying to gain any sign of beauty he saw in others. And he thought of it as a game.
Lolita's mom was surely a lot dependent on others despite her seemingly self-confidence. A sad woman.
Lolita. Mind-driven. She liked to play around with men and provoke them. I don't have a clue why she chose to be with Humbert, what attraction she found in him. Maybe it was that he was a lot older than her. Though in the end she seems to be regretting it because she chooses to be with Dick and has dumped Humbert in a crude manner already for a few years. When Humbert meets her after four years he gives her such a load of money that only then does Lolita feel grateful to him and tells him to keep in touch. Too late; he's not listening. Very beautiful. Unhappy in the end(?).

I certainly recommend this film, though i have the conception that i was the only one not having scene the film. It is a classic after all, isn't it.

Holidays, Queen, Dilemmas

I'm back from the two-day trip *wow* at St.Athanasios (haha Agios Athanasios in greek) with my family. Well, i can't say i really enjoyed myself, but the landscape was amazing ! There were beautiful blooming trees all around, which my grandmother told me must have been pear trees. The weather was exactly as I like it; cloudy with a little hint of rain!
We arrived on Saturday. I went for a short walk around the trees and all, listening to my ipod, which was perhaps the best part of the trip! Then came lunch blah blah! Then we went to the church and followed one day full of tradition, food and regrets! Regrets for going there at the first place and for the food i so willingly consumed! It's been pretty boring so far! thank god now i'm back in thessaloniki! !

AH the good news is I found a record by Queen *My all time fave band*. The thing is as Freddie doesn't live on earth no more, the record involves songs written by Roger, Brian and Paul Rodgers. As you might have heard Roger, Brian and Rodgers have been touring together, it's been almost 3-4 years? no? i can't recall exactly! Anyway i'm really excited to listen to the new songs ! ! Oh and the album is called 'The Cosmos'. I will sometime dedicate a few words to Queen, -i'm sure Constance now goes 'ffffuck', i have made her see some of Queen's gigs over ten times really- as their songs have been in my brain for such a long time now and still haven't faded the least!

one last thing ! i have been saving some money to buy lanvin ballerinas (i think lanvin ballerinas really are the prettiest in this wicked world of ours), BUT i gave it some thought and i think it would be much better if i spared my euros on a camera, but you know a real good one... and i want it to be digital so that I can upload them on the internet, here on blogspot and stuff. I have an old-fashioned one, which belongs to my dad. The thing is it works with film-which is much much much better if you're asking me- but it's all the more difficult in case you wanna upload coz you'd need a scanner!

Uh anyways this is all for now! now i shall come and mark the full stop .

venture to publicity

ok as this is my first post i thought i might do a rough introductory thing . My name is Efi. (basic stuff). I don't know why i began this blog, it's probably the results of staying at home for too long with nothing to do! it's a little bit weird because i have nothing to write really but on the other hand i don't want my page to be empty, so I'm filling in rather useless information!
I'd like to say a few things about myself! aright first of all I'm 17 years old and next year is my final year at school -thank god. But it's gonna be tough! Anyway I'm almost sure I'm gonna flop! MISERABLE TOPIC>SWITCH IT.
I enjoy reading quite a lot, though I've recently come across some important cues about me;
  • I don't absorb information easily, it's probably the result of incapability to concentrate properly
  • i can't tell myself what to do, or what not to do rather.
  • surrealistic poems really wind me up!
  • i have not done something that fulfills my wants for a long time now...not good
  • i have absolutely no idea about how I'd like my life to be in 10 years from now!
  • I'm after all scared to do many things, even though i give the exact opposite impression at times
  • i have always been in love with the English language and always have been very enthusiastic about English words, but recently I've taken up French quite seriously... very difficult language, very!
  • most of the time i watch films not because I'm particularly interested in the film but because i have nothing else to do and watching is a passive way of amusement. I don't need to be doing something but at the same time if someone asks "What are you up to?", I go "I'm watching a film.", they just leave you alone !
  • I hate Easter Holidays!
  • I sometimes smoke not because i want to, but because I want to avoid talking either generally or to certain people, and a smoke allows you not to!
  • i sometimes eat without being hungry;don't know why!
  • i can't draw. my friend Constance says that's impossible -she draws amazingly, that's why.
  • i can sit around listening to music all day long. I have nearly lost my hearing thanks to my ipod!
  • At times I get mad at people without having a good reason for it. And then I get moody, again no reason! not good~
  • The French obsession thing all began after I watched 'The Dreamers' one day. Then i came to realise how fascinating a language it is! My mom says it's the language of the intellectual. I quite agree as a matter of fact.
  • My declared favourite film is 'A Fish Called Wanda' with John Cleese, Kevin Kline, Michael Palin *is it spelled with two l's?* don't know! But apart from this film I like plenty others, no idea why this has stuck to my mind as my fave!
  • A couple of days ago I visited the "Bodies" exhibition, on my four-day trip with my school to Athens. I can't say if i liked it or not...
  • this is one of my main problems; I'm not always sure If I like something or not.
  • vodka in certain amounts can bring about the symptoms of drunkenness.
I'm sorry if all this seems tiring to read. I'm sorry if it seems silly and pedestrian but creativity doesn't follow me most of the time! Seriously...the past days have been top miserable!

Oh and about the title...well it's random! this only stands as a great reason as to why a chose it! plus i coulnd't think of a better one! i may have bored you up to this point so this where i mark the full stop.
